Food Safety

Food Safety is linked to the presence of food-borne hazards in food at the point of consumption. Since food safety hazards can occur at any stage in the food chain it is essential that adequate control is in place. Therefore, a combined effort of all parties through the food chain is required. It is applicable to all organizations, regardless of size, which are involved in any aspect of the food chain and wants to implement systems that consistently provide safe products.

ISO 22000:2018 (FSMS)

ISO 22000:2018 is an internationally recognized food safety management system that can be used in any organization in the food chain. It was initially published in 2005 to overcome the number of food crisis. It facilitates the harmonization of international food safety rules and regulations. Its latest version comes in 2018 so ISO 22000:2018 is the latest food safety management standard. The standard really helpful in alignment of the strategic direction of the organization with respect to food safety management system

The goal of ISO 22000:2018 is to help organizations establish and maintain a food safety management system that is based on the principles of hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) and meets the requirements of international food safety regulations. Compliance with ISO 22000:2018 is voluntary, but it can demonstrate an organization’s commitment to food safety and can also provide a competitive advantage.

HACCP

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) is a system which provides the framework for monitoring the total food system, from harvesting to consumption, to reduce the risk of foodborne illness. The system is designed to identify and control potential problems before they occur. In its Model Food Code, the Food and Drug Administration has recommended the HACCP system “because it is a system of preventive controls that is the most effective and efficient way to assure that food products are safe ”. The application of HACCP is based on technical and scientific principles that assure safe food. The HACCP system was developed by NASA in the 1960s to ensure the safety of food for astronauts, and was later adopted by the food industry as a means of preventing food safety problems.

HALAL

Halal certification is a process of verifying that a product or service complies with Islamic dietary laws. The term “Halal” means “permissible” or “lawful” in Arabic and refers to food and drinks that are allowed according to Islamic law.

What is HALAL?

The aim of Halal certification is to provide assurance to consumers that a product is suitable for consumption by Muslims, and to promote the availability of Halal-compliant products in the global marketplace. The certification is widely recognized and is becoming increasingly important as the Muslim population grows and demand for Halal products increases.

GAP

GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certification is a program that verifies that agricultural products have been grown and processed in a way that meets certain standards for food safety, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility. The certification is intended to ensure that products are produced in a manner that is safe for consumers, protects the environment, and supports the well-being of workers and communities.

G.A.P. uses independent , third – party certifiers to audit farms and verify compliance to our comprehensive standards and to assign the appropriate animal welfare certification level . G.A.P requires farms , raw material manufacturers , processing facilities , packaged product manufacturers , retailers , and foodservice establishments to abide by defined chain of custody protocols to ensure that all GAP , certified meat products are labeled and segregated properly before they are available for purchase

The benefits of GAP certification include improved product quality and safety, increased market access for certified products, and improved sustainability and social responsibility in agriculture. By demonstrating their commitment to these principles, GAP-certified farms and processors can differentiate themselves from their competitors and help build trust with consumers.

BRC

BRC Certification is certification of food and beverage safety by the British Retail Consortium (BRC). Compliance with BRC Certification in India is an international benchmark for safe food manufacturing. The certifications cover many of the internationally recognized food safety standards, such as ISO 22000:2018, HACCP and SQF Code 2001 zonal benchmarks. The BRC certification process aims to ensure that food products are produced and handled in a safe, hygienic and consistent manner and meet legal requirements, customer expectations and industry standards. The certification is based on a standard that is reviewed and updated annually to reflect changes in legislation, industry best practices and consumer demands. Companies that meet the requirements of the BRC standard can use the BRC logo on their products, which is a recognized symbol of quality and safety in the food industry.

FSC

FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits.

The FSC Principles and Criteria provide a foundation for all forest management standards globally, including the FSC US National Standard that guides forest management certification in the U.S.  FSC certified products are identified by the FSC logo and can include paper, wood, and other forest products. Consumers and businesses choose FSC certified products to support environmentally and socially responsible forestry practices. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international organization that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets standards for sustainable forest management, ensuring that forests are managed in an environmentally responsible and socially beneficial way.

FSC certification provides assurance that products labeled with the FSC logo come from forests that are responsibly managed according to strict environmental and social standards. These standards cover a range of issues, including the protection of water resources, biodiversity, and the rights of forest-dependent communities.

FSC certification helps to ensure that forests are managed sustainably, providing ecological, social, and economic benefits for present and future generations. It provides a credible, independently verified assurance to consumers, businesses, and governments that the products they purchase come from responsibly managed forests.
