Understanding ISO 22000
ISO 22000 is the international standard for Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS). It combines the ISO management system approach with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) principles to ensure food safety throughout the supply chain — from farm to fork.
HACCP is a food safety methodology focused on identifying and controlling biological, chemical, and physical hazards. ISO 22000 is a broader management system standard that incorporates HACCP principles within a full ISO management framework including leadership, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation, and improvement.
Think of HACCP as the technical core, and ISO 22000 as the management wrapper around it.
